Vientiane is the capital of Laos, a country that was ruled by the French in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This French presence had given rise to a wide selection of French cuisine, and this is one of the things I am most excited about! I've never really been able to indulge in French cuisine back when I lived in Chicago because it was always so expensive everywhere I went. Going to Laos will be my chance to eat French food for about $6 a meal!
We plan to leave next Wednesday night and be there for 2 days since I have to go back to work on Saturday morning. This won't give us much time to do any sight-seeing, but this trip is definitely a welcome break after a few weeks of having my life revolve around teaching.
